Error: "Unable to create catalog"

Occurrence:

The following error message is returned when trying to catalog files on the DAP Server:

"Unable to create catalog".

Resolution:

There could be different reasons as to why the DAP Server is returning this error. It could range from the DCS service not working, or the catalog file itself is locked.

Here are a couple of resolutions to try:

To restart the "DAP Distributed Cataloging Service" Service:

1. Start menu > Control Panel > Administrative tools.
2. Double-click Services.
3. Right-click DAP Distributed Cataloging Service and select Restart.

To restart Internet Information Services (IIS):

1. Start menu > Control Panel > Administrative tools.
2. Double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
3. On Windows 2003, right-click the local computer > All Tasks > Restart IIS.
   On Windows 2008, in the right menu, click Restart.
