What are .cache files?

The .cache folders are only created for raster image formats when the image contains a warp.  The dewarped files are stored in the .cache folders and are used for high-resolution previewing of those datasets when clients display them in Seeker.  Unfortunately there’s no way to control the size of the dewarped file as it is generated using an ESRI algorithm.  Nor can we selectively disable only the warped versions of a given file format as the DAP Administrator does not differentiate between a warped .TIF and a standard .TIF (for example).

You should notice that files which were previously cataloged (prior to DAP 11.2) still catalog, and do so without .cache folders.  It is only those files that were previously not catalogable which now require the associated .cache folders.
