DAP Server: rdbms connection is not being cataloged

Article Number: 000001261
Product: DAP Administrator
Operating System: Windows 2008 Server, Windows 2003 Server
Last modified date: 2012-07-06

Symptom:

I have created an rdbms connection through DAP Administrator, but it is not cataloging my connection.  I am getting this error after cataloging:

(40000) Failed to connect to the database. (ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.ERROR [01000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).)

Resolution:

  1. Check the setting in the File Mappings in DAP Administrator by right clicking on your DAP Server --> Edit --> custom --> Edit. Check to see if there is .GEOSOFT_RDMS if there is double click on it and chage to .GEOSOFT_RDBMS then save the configuration.
  2. Confirm with the client that the IDAP account has not been excluded from the database they are trying to connect the rdbms for.
  3. Check to make sure that the System DSN connector is pointing to the correct database server.
  4. Check the disk space available on the server. Ensure that the IDAP account TEMP and TMP environment variables folders are set within a disk drive that has alot of free space.
